The 15th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE2011) was held at Zhejiang University

     From May 29 to May31, the 15th Global Chinese Conference on Computers in Education (GCCCE2011) was held in the International Conference Center on the Zijingang campus of Zhejiang University. The conference was sponsored by Zhejiang University and The Global Chinese Society for Computers in Education (GCSCE) and hosted by the Modern Educational Technology Center (METC) of Zhejiang University. More than 500 participants from different countries and regions (mainly from the United States, Singapore, Italy, Taiwan, Hongkong, and mainland of China) attended the conference. 


    Professor Zhang Jianping, Director of METC as well as the President of GCCCE2011, presided over the opening ceremony. At the beginning of the conference, Professor Luo Weidong, Vice President of Zhejiang University, sent awarm welcome to delegates from all over the world and he pointed out that information technology had an important impact on educational reform and that it has been integrated into the university’s teaching, research, managing, and social services. The theme of GCCCE2011, “ICT-based Educational Innovation,” worked well with the current trend of educational reform and development. As the founders of the GCCCE, Professor Chan Tak-Wai (from Taiwan National Central University) and Professor Li Kedong (from South China Normal University) introduced the history of GCCCE and sent best wishes for its future. Professor Wang Zhuzhu, Director of the National Center of Educational Technology (NCET) as well as Director of the Teaching Resource Center of the Ministry of Education, commented that an important impact of information communication technology (ICT) on social development lies in its ability to carry forward the fine traditional culture, to create new cultural characters and to form a new social order. In addition, Mr. Shi Jianguo, Director of the Educational Technology Center of Zhejiang Province and Mrs. Wang Lan, Project Manager of IEEE gave speeches during the opening ceremony.
    GCCCE2011 invited four distinguished scholars to give keynote speeches, Professor Nancy W. Y. Law from University of Hong Kong (speech title was “Sustainability of ICT-based Educational Innovation”), Professor Yang Zong kai from Central China Normal University (speech title was “Deepening Integration and Supporting Innovation: Thinking on Educational Informationalization Issues in National Long-term Planning”), Professor Gwo-Jen Hwang from National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (speech title was “Research and Application Trends in area of Mobile Learning and Ubiquitous Learning”), Professor Zhu Zhiting from East China Normal University (speech title was “New Development in Educational Informationalization in Chinese k-12 Education”).

ational Innovation. To better represent the theme, the conference was further organized into 10 sub-conferences: Mobile Learning and Ubiquitous Learning; Educational Games and Informal Learning; ICT Application in Chinese Language Teaching; Computer Supported Collaborative Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Education; Construction of the Digital Learning Environment and Educational Software Design; Digital Measurement and Evaluation; Digital Learning and Corporate Training; ICT Application in Primary and Secondary Education; K-12 Teachers Forums and Doctoral Forums. Overall, the conference received 1,327 submissions. After a strict peer review process, about 400 papers (30.3%) were accepted as full papers that could be collected in the proceedings. The conference proceedings will be published by IEEE and will be EI indexed.
    Professor Ye Min, Deputy Secretary of Zhejiang University, and Professor Xu Maijin, Party Secretary of College of Education, attended the opening ceremony. The Conference was large scale and high level and the conference’s organization work was praised by GCSCE and all participants. It is worthy to mention that the opening ceremony and keynote speeches of GCCCE2011 were synchronously broadcasted through the Internet to Zhejiang University of Technology and Zhejiang Normal University.
